Speedster Tyreek Hill's gruesome knee injury was just the beginning of the end of his tenure with the Miami Dolphins. What comes next for Hill as the 2026 season approaches?
Around the NFL, teams have begun their spring workouts at OTAs. Players and coaches are back out on practice fields for their first training sessions as the 2026 iteration of the team. Notably absent from any team's OTAs so far is Hill, who remains a free agent after the Dolphins released him in a salary cap-related transaction near the start of the league year in March.

Last September, in a Week 4 game against the New York Jets, Hill sustained a dislocated left knee and tore multiple ligaments around his knee, including the ACL. After he underwent surgery to repair the season-ending injury to his knee, Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN that the procedure "went very well" and that Hill hoped to play in 2026.

So far, Hill remains unsigned as he nears the three-month mark of his unrestricted free agency. He's posted videos on Instagram showing the progress he's made in strengthening his knee during his injury recovery, but none so far have shown the wideout back on the field or running on his reconstructed knee.
There are still three full months to go before the NFL season gets underway, which means there's time for Hill to complete his recovery and return on a new contract in 2026. Here are four teams that may be in the market to sign Hill if he's ready to go by the start of next season:

Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs could commit fully to "getting the band back together" in the 2026 offseason if they wanted to. Tight end Travis Kelce is back for his 14th season in the NFL after signing another extension. Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is back with head coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs after three years with other teams, including one at UCLA. Obviously, Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes are returning in 2026.
Hill could follow Bieniemy's lead as another former member of the Chiefs – part of their Super Bowl 54 champion team – to re-join Reid, Mahomes and Kelce after years away from Kansas City. The Chiefs, for their part, still need wide receiver help. Kelce has been the team's leading pass-catcher by receiving yards in each of the four years since Hill left for Miami, and the aging tight end hasn't surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in any of the last three seasons. It's unclear as of now whether Hill will return to the level of play he was at before his injury, but he could certainly raise the floor of the receiver room the Chiefs currently have.

Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons invested in their receiving corps in the offseason by drafting Georgia's Zachariah Branch in the third round. But Atlanta is still missing quality veteran wide receivers outside of Drake London in its current offense. Running back Bijan Robinson is a pass-catching threat, and tight end Kyle Pitts is back on the franchise tag after a nice re-breakout in 2025. Outside of them, the Falcons are relying on wideouts Jahan Dotson and Olamide Zaccheaus to catch passes from whichever lefty veteran – Michael Penix Jr. or Tua Tagoviloa – wins the starting job.
Adding Hill to head coach Kevin Stefanski's offense might be the final piece of the puzzle to set the Falcons up for more success in 2026. Atlanta's NFC South rivals all appear set for big seasons next year, and it's unclear if the Falcons have done enough to keep up after a second straight 8-9 season. Hill would add the strong veteran receiver presence Atlanta could use opposite of London, and his familiarity with Tagovailoa could be an additional boon for the Falcons if the fellow former Dolphin wins the starting gig.
Los Angeles Chargers
Hill was one of the first major additions to Mike McDaniel's offense during his stint as the Dolphins' head coach. The wideout and the offensive guru combined forces to put together two of the best seasons of Hill's career in their first two years in Miami. Could they reunite in Los Angeles now that McDaniel is the Chargers' offensive coordinator?

It's certainly possible. McDaniel is now set to join forces with the best quarterback he's ever worked with, Justin Herbert, but the Chargers could still use an extra boost in their receiving room. Ladd McConkey took a step back in production in 2025 as he competed for targets with Quentin Johnston and Keenan Allen, the Chargers icon who returned to the team last year. Allen is a free agent now, Johnston is still inconsistent and McConkey still needs to prove he can return to his rookie year form. Hill could be the extra weapon the Chargers need to boost their passing offense in a reunion with McDaniel on the West Coast.

Washington Commanders
Unlike the other three teams, there are no obvious ties between Hill and the Commanders. Washington could just really use more help at wide receiver in 2026. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin had the worst season of his career in 2025 after missing a career-high seven games due to injuries. Deebo Samuel, who was the Commanders' top receiver in 2025, is now a free agent. While Washington did draft Clemson's Antonio Williams in the third round, Washington, like Atlanta, could use more of a veteran presence in its receivers room.

Assuming he returns from injury, Hill could be that guy for quarterback Jayden Daniels and new offensive coordinator David Blough. Even if the former Dolphins receiver isn't the speedster he was in his younger days pre-injury, Hill would still be an upgrade at the Commanders' No. 2 receiver spot behind McLaurin. Washington's current options for that slot – Williams the rookie, Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane, Van Jefferson and Treylon Burks – don't move the needle much.
