He’s back! Former UFC fighter Shane Burgos ready for ‘one more run’ – ‘I needed that break’

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Professional Fighters League (PFL) fighter Shane Burgos has been out of action since his unanimous decision loss to Clay Collard in Aug. 2023 — which ended up being one of the best fights of the year — but since that loss, the 35-year-old has been a ghost.

However, Burgos took to social media yesterday to announce that he is ready to fight again and make one more run to close out his career.

“One more run,” Burgos wrote. “I needed that break from fighting. The weight cuts, the training camps, everything that goes into it burned me out. That’s in the past tho. I’ve never stopped working. I need to be back in that fire again. I miss it. Excited for whatever’s next.”

Burgos (16-5) left UFC after 11 fights with the promotion after testing free agency, even though, according to UFC CEO Dana White, it should never have happened. White publicly admitted that losing Burgos was a “big mistake” behind the scenes, and because of that, he walked right out the door and into the arms of PFL.

Unfortunately for Burgos, his PFL run ended up being kind of a disaster for his career. Still, he has zero regrets because he made a lot of money for his family, which was his entire motive for testing free agency in the first place. Burgos fought three times under the PFL banner, going 1-2.

In April of last year, Burgos admitted that he hopes to return to UFC to end his career — and it makes plenty of sense. There are still fun fights to be made, and if there is one thing Burgos does every single time out, it is fight for his money and entertain the fans.

Given his 8-3 UFC record and reputation for delivering absolute bangers (like this), it feels like only a matter of time before White and Co. at least consider bringing the 35-year-old veteran back.

But if not, Jake Paul’s MVP MMA or Scott Coker’s new promotion could always be looking for big names.
