Only “The Drive” Away from Penn State Football

In 96 days, Penn State will open its 2026 season at home against Marshall.

Presently, there’s no number 96 on the program and this is a shameless use of the 96 as Tim just used the 96-yard drive against Illinois in last year’s preseason countdown.

That’s right. The biggest threat to Penn State’s 12-0 season back in 1994 was a 21-0 deficit on the road against Illinois. The Lions still trailed late in the fourth quarter when the Kerry Collins-led offense went 96 yards against one of the nation’s top defenses, capped by a Brian Milne touchdown run as Penn State escaped with a 35-31 win and clinched its first Big Ten title.

Here’s the shameless plug part – don’t just discuss this game in the comments, but go check out Happy Valley Rewind on our BSD YouTube page. I’ve posted the time that I joined Tim to talk about this game for more than an hour. It’s awesome. I promise. By the way, while you’re there, go ahead and subscribe. Once we hit 1,000 subscribers, I’ll join Tim, Patrick, and Jared to name 1,000 Penn State players. Doesn’t that sound fun?

It’s peak offseason, so check out some of our podcasts – including Tim’s dominant win against Jared in trivia.

Keep up with us here on the site, too, as we continue to count down to Penn State’s season opener in 96 days.
