Will the New England Patriots be acquiring wide receiver A.J. Brown in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles this week?

If so -- or if New England lands Brown at some point this offseason -- they'd be joining very exclusive company.

Patriots reporter Mike Reiss of ESPN explained.

"If the Patriots acquire Brown, who turns 29 on June 30, they would become the second team in NFL history to play in a Super Bowl and then trade for a player who had 1,000-plus receiving yards the prior season," Reiss wrote. "The only prior instance was the 2017 Patriots, who traded for Brandin Cooks (1,173 receiving yards in 2016 with the Saints) after winning Super Bowl LI."

During the 2025 season, Stefon Diggs became the first New England player to record at least 1,000 receiving yards in a campaign since Julian Edelman in 2019.

Brown has posted four straight 1,000-yard seasons and six in his seven years in the NFL.
