What does latest Brandon Aiyuk news mean for Commanders?

Wednesday brought bad news regarding Brandon Aiyuk.

News broke earlier this evening that a warrant has been issued in Northern California for Aiyuk's arrest. Why? Well, it seems Aiyuk is wanted. He is wanted on a misdemeanor charge for an exhibition of speed in his automobile. Apparently, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the arrest warrant to The California Post on Wednesday.

The San Francisco 49ers receiver has been the subject of speculation for months that he would be signed by the Washington Commanders as soon as the 49ers release him. Wednesday's news raises further questions, like did the Commanders already know about this? And if so, are the Commanders still interested in signing Aiyuk, because he is an old friend and teammate of their franchise quarterback, Jayden Daniels?

It seems Aiyuk posted a video on his YouTube page back in December, and this is the source of the issue. Here is the video Aiyuk posted. In the video, you can observe for yourself that Aiyuk had his phone positioned to record his speedometer reaching 100 mph on Santa Clara roadways. At one point, Aiyuk can be seen driving at 104 mph, racing past Levi's Stadium, the home stadium of his team, the 49ers.

In fairness to Aiyuk, a few days later, he apologized on his YouTube page, saying, Sorry y'all,” he wrote. “My car content won’t come with speeding anymore! Was praying with my son tonight and wouldn’t want anybody else to miss out on an opportunity to do the same with their loved ones! My apologies.”

So, what does this mean for Washington? The Commanders are in the middle of their second week of OTAs, and there are no distractions. Even if Daniels can vouch for Aiyuk, the longer this situation goes on, the less likely it feels he ends up in Washington. Of course, the 49ers have to officially release Aiyuk first, something they are in no hurry to do.
