After pulling off a blockbuster trade for Myles Garrett, the NFL's new record holder for single season sacks, the Los Angeles Rams are now the consensus hands down favorites to win the next Super Bowl.
L.A. now boasts the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year in Garrett and the Most Valuable Player in quarterback Matthew Stafford. The league leader in TD passes (46) and passing yards (4,707) announced his return for an 18th season while claiming the MVP award during the NFL Honors program.

Of course, it's always good to plan ahead when you can, and the Rams did exactly that when they used their first round draft pick (13th overall) on Alabama QB Ty Simpson. After all, if you're only standing still, it means you're actually falling behind.
Or so that saying goes.
Simpson was widely considered to be the #2 QB in this draft class behind only Heisman trophy winner, national champion and #1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. Simpson has the perfect tutor and mentor in Stafford, and he'll thus be set to take the reins in 2027, 2028 or whenever that might be.
Rams linebacker Byron Young, who led the team in sacks, en route to making his first Pro Bowl in 2025, opined on the his team's decision to select Simpson, instead of going for a position where there is more of an immediate need.

“I think he’s a good quarterback, he’s a great kid,” Young said, regarding Simpson, in an exclusive with Ratings.org. “With the front office, trusting everything that they do is in the best interest of this team. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes.
"We got some great players, got some D-linemen, got some tight ends. Got some receivers in there. I can’t wait to see what these guys bring to this. I have no doubt that these guys will come in, definitely help motivate you regardless of what pick they are.”
Barring an injury to Stafford, Simpson will be brought along at a pace that is more comfortable to both him and the organization. This is certainly a luxury for the Rams, and very few NFL teams get to enjoy a luxury such as this.
Young, who set a career high in tackles (82) this past season, knows that the division rival and reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks are going to be the biggest obstacle in their way in 2026. The Rams came up just short against them in the NFC title game, 31-27, in January.

He discussed what must be done in order to get over the hump this time around.
“We have to finish,” Young said in the same interview, regarding how they can beat the Seahawks in the next meeting. “That’s a complete team. That’s a team where you can’t give them a chance, you won’t give them much type of chance, because that’s how you lose.
"You can’t make mistakes like that, the small mistakes we made, because that’s how you lose."
