Gonzalez is entering the final year of his rookie deal; however, the Patriots have the fifth-year club option for 2027. But, with no long-term deal agreed to, Gonzalez opted to skip OTAs as he holds out for a new deal.

Although Gonzalez not being at OTAs is tough, Jones understands his decision, but said he supports him as well as the team.

“We support him and the organization… I’ve been in the situation of learning how contract negotiations goes. At the end of the day they want what’s best for them  and he wants what’s best for him,” Jones said, via Mark Daniels.

Gonzalez is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, after the Patriots selected him 17th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Last season, he recorded 69 tackles and 10 pass defenses, but didn’t record an interception during the regular season. Yet, in the playoffs, he recorded one to secure the AFC Championship Game.

As for Jones, he’s entering the first year of his three-year, $34.98 million deal with the Patriots. He recorded 65 tackles, three interceptions and two sacks last season.
